Volvo S40 Towbar Wiring Dedicated OR Universal ???

Folks, need some expert advice here as its been a while since I fitted my last tow bar. I have a 2009 Volvo S40 2.0D saloon and I need a tow bar and associated single electrics. After a little investigation I have found I can get either a dedicated wiring kit (£150 so obviously the best) OR a universal kit (£25) that comes with a bypass. Now here is my BIG question, in my googling I have found that when a dedicated wiring loom is used some cars alter settings like cooling, disabling fogs etc. Cooling is a biggie. Would my model do this ? Do I REALLY need the dedicated one ??? Also would it need any form of software download/update to enable any of these features ?

Blooming minefield this is ! Appreciate help from anyone if possible..
