Hi all,
I have recently been involved in my first car accident, which was non fault, in my brand new Fiesta red edition, and I have no idea how these things work, so apologies in advance. I reported the accident to my insurance (Hastings) immediately, and was straight away passed to Albany Assistance. Having to ring everyday to chase any updates, and to try and sort my car out for repair, I was getting pretty fed up, they were saying liability hadnt been accounted for, and the final straw came when they finally called to arrange to get my car repaired a week and a half later, as long as I signed credit agreements. After googling Albany Assistance, and having a few doubts, I decided against using this "accident management group." I called them back, and informed of this.
I then called the third parties insurance direct (Aviva), gave them my details and they straight away advised their driver had registered a fault claim and admitted all liability for the accident (Strange of Hastings/Albany to keep me worrying mind!), I told them about Albany, and advised I would prefer to deal with themselves direct, as Albany would merely use me to make as much profit as possible, have my car away for been repaired for longer then was needed, and charge Aviva through the nose, when all I wanted was my car repaired as quickly as possible, which Aviva agreed to deal direct.
I called Hastings and advised them of this, and all they did was close the call, no apologies for delays/lack of communication etc.
They agreed to let me take it to a Ford dealer, got a quote which was accepted by Aviva, and my details were passed onto Enterprise from Aviva for them to sort out a courtesy car. I handed my car into the dealer Monday afternoon after work, and was picked up and taken to Enterprise. As a side note, I opted to pay roughly £7 a day for excess waiver, as the thought of being charged £500 excess for a minor scratch which they would no doubt find somewhere. I was given a much bigger car, a Passat Estate diesel, as there were "no smaller cars available"
The car itself, after checking on the askmid database last night and today, is showing as not insured. I called enterprise today and was told the car was insured, they wouldn't have released the car uninsured, however any third party issues would go through my insurance. So they would repair this car if anything happened, but my insurance, being fully comp, would deal with any third party issues.
This has left me baffled and seeking some help, so here I am!
Why would Hastings (my insurer) deal with third party claims on a courtesy car they don't even know I'm driving, and that wasn't provided by them?! Surely, Aviva should temporarily arrange insurance on this courtesy car while my car is getting repaired?
I've got the rental agreement and copy of insurance for my fiesta in the Passat just incase I am stopped.
Again, this is just me thinking the worst, and what if this happened etc.
Any help on this, including the side note of the excess waiver with any thoughts would be gladly appreciated.
