2006 1.6 tdci cmax fails

I have a cmax 1.6 tdci 2006 when under load and over 3500 revs i get a diesel knock and a big cloud of smoke and the car comes to a stand still and will not start for at least 30-45 mins .
But when the car is parked and running u can take the revs over 4500 and the car dose not fail please help cheers mick
