I purchased a Ford Fiesta Finesse 1.4 5 door car a few days back. I had spotted the following listing:
Selling Ford Fiesta Finesse 03 plate 5dr automatic HPI clear
MOT till January 2017
Cheap runner and very economical
Clean interior and good body condition
Engine, gearbox and suspension like new
£1,050
I traveled from Stoke on Trent to Oldham to test drive and this went OK with no issues. After haggling down to £900, I purchased the vehicle and drove back to Stoke on Trent, again with no issues.
Since then, I've driven about 20-25 miles (just locally and in areas of no more than 50mph) and the orange/yellow check engine light has appeared on the dash. The car still drives with no obvious issues but naturally, I have my concerns as to why it has appeared so soon after purchase. I've used the internet to attempt to troubleshoot but there are so many different things that it could be. I've checked the oil and water levels, which are fine. There doesn't appear to be any leak or cosmetic fault and as previously stated, the car drives with no obvious issues. Today, for half a minute or so, a orange/yellow exclamation mark also appeared on the dash but then disappeared and has not reappeared since. Having looked online regarding this, it seems to be a potential issue with brake fluid, but again I can't be sure.
Can anyone offer any advice as to my rights regarding this. Is there cause for serious concern? Have I been ripped off etc?
I've spoken with the seller who has offered to 'fix it' on the basis that I drive to Oldham and allow them to do it. I suggested the prospect of booking in a diagnostics test locally in Stoke and having them pay for it but they've come back to say that 1. I'm arrogant and know nothing about cars and 2. They will not pay for that and only they are prepared to look at/fix it.
This is my first car and I don't know a great deal. Please help!
Many thanks in advance.
