Firstly please if anyone reads this please bare with me as i don't know all the relevant car lingo and parts but i am willing to learn and i thought other drivers may have experienced the same issue as me and i don't always trust garages because as a woman they could quite easily fool me into spending money unnecessarily. Anyway i am getting a tapping noise coming from the under the bonnet on the drivers side and i am aware of it more so when in idling. I have had no warning lights but i bought the car second hand 6 months ago and the noise wasn't there then. Someone i think said it could be the tensioner (whatever that is) or something else i can't remember but he said he'd have to have it in the garage to check it over. Then i told a good friend who does know a fair amount about cars (but likes to think he knows more than he does sometimes lol.) Funny though that until i mentioned the tensioner he said yeah i thought it could be that but there is no rush in fixing it as it won't just go on you or cause any bigger damage. But i want my car to run the best it can but i am on benefits and can't afford to lay out money unless have to. So say the car had a service at the beginning of the year a month before i bought it but the invoice is on a blank piece of paper and i don't know how much was actually done. It was years prior to the last owner who did have a few VW stamps but there were things amiss on the info about work that had been done or more importantly not done properly like a new windscreen that wasn't fitted properly and the cars electrics were getting soaked. Anyway enough of that!! The one other problem i have is that when i am driving in the lower gears up to about 30 miles an hour the car seems to jerk or do little bunny hops. And i am a proficient driver (actually a wicked woman driver dare i say lol and a wanna be F1 driver lol. I can but dream eh?) So yes these things aren't to do with my driving and it doesn't happen every day or just when the car is cold. My friend again said it is probably due to the engine needing a couple of engine mounts that's making it jerk like that. He also said i might need a couple of drop links (whatever they are) but none of this has been looked at and is his assumption. But because i am a female and he likes to think he's right i wanted to get some other peoples opinions as to what these couple of issues could be. So any help would be gratefully received but please explain it in layman's terms if possible. And more importantly thank you for taking the time to read my waffle.
