Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum but was hoping that someone might be able to help with some advice after a problem which occurred when having a tyre changed on my Mini Cooper.
I took my car into a specialist mini garage to have one of my run flat tyres replaced (o/s/f). When I picked my car up and drove off I noticed a crack in my windscreen about 9 inches long starting from the same corner that the tyre was changed. There may have been a small chip in the lower corner of the windscreen which had been there a few years, and it appeared on the MOT certificate under advisory items as "windscreen has damage to an area less than a 40mm circle outside zone 'A' [8.3.1d] back in September 2014. However on my new MOT certificate (September 2015) there was no advisory note saying about the chip.
I contacted the garage and they said the crack was already there when they saw the car and it was about 2 inches, but that is definitely not the case so they are saying it's their word against mine and they have asked me to send a letter of complaint in. The crack when I picked the car up was at least 9 inches long, but wondered if the process of changing the tyre could have caused the crack and I don't really have the right to complain, in which case I will leave it, but with the size of the crack, I maybe thought they could have been heavy handed with handling the car, and if done properly the crack wouldn't have occurred?
The garage say they got a third party in to do the tyre so will take it up with them once they receive my letter but didn't want to waste people time if I haven't got anything to complain about.
The frustrating thing as well was the garage were giving me two different stories as to what had happened to my car while it was with them. One person said someone had taken it out for a test drive, and it was then they noticed the crack, while the person who took it out said he put the wheel on full lock and reversed it 3 feet to allow the third party to change the tyre.
Also, and I know it isn't a lot, but it's the principle, I had 2 x £2 coins in my drink cup holder in the front of my car which have been in there for months and it crossed my mind when I pulled into the garage to take them out, but thought I wouldn't need to, but there was only 1 coin in there after I picked up the car. I checked all around the car in case it had jumped out when they jacked it up, but it is nowhere to be seen.
I would be interested on people's opinions as to if I should take it further or just put it down to experience and move on.
I am getting my windscreen replaced Friday through my insurance.
Many thanks
Richard
