Vauxhaul Astra 1.2 diesel 2008 hatchback 52000 miles
A rattling sound appeared when depressing the clutch to change gears.
The garage man said straight away that it was the flywheel going and it could be ok for a while or go at anytime.
On searching on line it appeared that this was a common fault with this car and we decided to have the job done.
It also appeared that in changing the flywheel the clutch should be renewed at the same time.
I arranged for it to be done and it also needed a new thrust bearing - the total cost was £588.
Upon return there was a problem that was not there before - namely a "vibration" -a noise of some kind when driving.
There was no problem when at idle.
I returned the car and after a test drive an engine mounting was tightened.
This did not solve the problem and the car was returned again after a day and the gearbox oil being topped up
I was told to run it for a month or if no change to be back in touch after a week.

At no point was it suggested that the clutch needed to be "revisited"
