Nightmare day...

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum so I hope you don't mind me posting a long winded question?

Basically, yesterday I was in a traffic accident. I rear ended someone, it was a complete accident but the accident was unfortunately my fault. There was very little damage to the other car, but she will still make a claim against me. My own car unfortunately sustained a fair amount of cosmetic damage t the front. The car runs absolutely find but the bumper will need replacing as will the bonnet. When i called my insurance company they said they would write it off, and pay me market value minus my excess; because the cost for them to fix it isn't worth it given the value of the car. They would likely value the repairs at over a grand (the car is worth about 800) However, I know my local body shop very well and they would be able to do the repairs easily using scrapyard parts, for about £300. I was wondering if they write it off and I keep the car, could i use the money to pay for the repair? If this is the case won't my car then be uninsurable by my insurance company as they think it is written off? I'm really unsure what to do next, and any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks!
