I had an incident on the M1 recently, where traffic was congested and slow. I was driving around 25-30mph in the left lane with a small gap in front of me. A long vehicle indicated to move in front of me from the middle lane and began to move. I lightly applied the brake to let him in, and an HGV behind me blared his horn, put his full beam on and was yelling and swearing for a couple of miles.
It shook me up a bit. But was I in the wrong? I was aware he was behind me but I guess my brake lights must have given him a shock and he was probably too close (although obviously at 25-30mph the stopping distance is pretty short anyway). I didn't slam my brakes on and at that speed I don't think it was dangerous but it has made me slightly doubt my own driving now! Any opinions either way? If he'd gone in to the back of me it would have been his fault, surely?
