Failed clutch in Alfa Romeo Giulietta

I purchased a Giulietta 1.4 multi-air a little over a year ago. It hasn't even had it's first service yet and has around 10K miles on the clock. A few weeks ago, the car gradually started losing power. Brought the car to the Alfa garage as soon as it become obvious that there was a fault. Garage say that it was the clutch and also make the comment that it is "normal" that the clutch could wear after 10k miles. I am 50 years old and have had enough cars to know that this isn't true. Anyway, they dismantle the gearbox and report back to the warranty line that the clutch is worn without any sign of a causing factor. They say that the repair is chargeable. I complain to Alfa Romeo customer services and their response is that “…We stand by our findings that the wear and tear of the clutch was due to the style of driving”

I wrote to Steve Zanlunghi, the MD of Alfa Romeo and he responds as follows:

". As spelled out in the warranty coverage the clutch is a wearable item and not included within the coverage. The life expectancy is determined by driving habits and conditions. To be clear I am not making any allegation as to driving habits, but I am stating that the clutch is worn and has been determined not to be a defect by an authorized dealer.

At this time, I stand by the decision taken by our Customer Relations team."

It is total madness that one can spend £22,000 on a new car and then be told that a new clutch is required 12 months later and that the problem is down to the "style of driving". I plan to go straight to court, but is there any advice from readers?
