I recently brought a cheap Renault megane 1.9 dti for my wifes first car. After buying the car i noticed there was a lack of power like the turbo was not kicking in and would not rev above 4000 rpm with not warning lights or smoke. The first thing i did was buy a new maf sensor from breaker yard and take the egr valve out and de-carbon it with brake cleaner/ carb cleaner "same thing" 2-3 big cans. GET ALL THE CARBON OFF AND MAKE SURE IT OPENS and apply heat resistant lube. Then take all the inlet pipes off with air filter housing to get access to turbo and put a whole can of cleaner into the inlets and poke something through the turbo actuator vac hole to make sure its clear. Now down the back of the engine is the turbo. Take the actuator off the turbo, 2 bolts and a clip. Make sure the leaver on the turbo is moving easily. If its stiff then wd-40 and pliers and wiggle it left to right till it moves easily and apply heat resistant lube. Check the actuator rod before refitting it SHOULD be difficult to pull out, oil the rod n vac hole and refit. Refit everything with new or good used maf sensor £15 used. The car will be difficult to start and will rev very high for a few seconds with a puff off white and black smoke, Don't worry it is just the cleaner burning off . Your car should rev right up now with full turbo use. IF YOU HAVE WARNING LIGHTS UP THEN YOU COULD HAVE A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. IF YOU HAVE EXCESSIVE SMOKE FROM EXHAUST THEN CHANCES ARE THE TURBO IS FUBAR. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEBODY
