Hi everyone,i have a honda civic 1.4 se fmo4rgx think it 2004,and i think and was told that the gearbox is faulty its making a wining noise more so in 2nd 3rd and 4th the garage mechanic says that the gearbox needs changing although i dont think he took the gearbox off as he didnt charge me anything for looking at it and only had it a couple of hours,he was very helpful and told me that i would be better off obtaining a second hand gearbox which he said would probably cost upwards of £200 and said would cost me in total roughly £500 for gearbox if i can get one for £200 new clutch (heavy duty as we will be towing a caravan)and also thrust bearing as that making a noise too,so my question is two part firstly what gearboxes are compatible with my model car and secondly are they easy to replace as i am thinking of doing it myself as i have changed gearboxes in the past (when i was younger lol) rearwheel and transverse moreover what are the possibilties and cost involved in replacing the affected gears im guessing that wouldnt be practical or cheap any advice would be appreciated just bought a small caravan and eager to get out there lol regards Adrian.
