I have gone to the bother of creating this profile over a piece of junk mail sent by the RAC, it annoyed me that much!
Bottom of the front of the mail says:-
"50% off when you come back to the RAC"
How presumptuous can you get! Why the hell would I come back to the RAC? I just left them! it then goes on to declare a flagship price of £29.99 which is fine, that is the starting price for a fixed single vehicle, but we have 2 people and 5 vehicles and do as many if not more miles a year in Europe, so that starting price is £248 quite a large jump from the promoted price. as for roadside fixes... if you happen to ride motorcycles and have anything more complex than a flat battery forget it you are going on a trailer which of course will be another 2 hour wait sir!
As for European cover they don't even cover all of the EEC, so be careful that you check which country you may break down in.
Don't get me wrong I was perfectly happy with the RAC for UK cover, and was with them many years, but it was a very expensive service that in the few times I called them was delivered reasonably well seldom took more than 2 hours to arrive and if it was just a jump start you needed then it got sorted, of course you could have bought some jump leads from a local garage and asked a stranger for help and got it sorted much faster and cheaper but the peace of mind factor was there, and the motorway tow charges make it sensible to pay some breakdown insurance.
I now have both of us covered in ALL EEC and some EEC fringe countries on all vehicles for half the price of the RAC, and I do hope to never need to test one service against another, but I bet I don't wait longer and the roadside fix percentage is about the same as the RAC overall but I do know from recommendations that the service I have moved to will provide a much higher fix percentage on motorcycles and the cost is almost exactly half what the RAC wanted.
So thanks for your presumptuous junk mail, please advise your advertising department that the half truths and overall presentation in this case has made me decide NEVER to rejoin the RAC even if the alternative is to push my bike home from Slovenia.
