Hi Guys

I am having a problem with the above car.
I have been having problems starting it since the weather got cold, it would turn over but not fire straight away. Would take me 6-7 attempts till it would fire. Last month the engine auto-diagnosis light started to come on while I changed from 4th to 5th gear. Would only flash for a second or two then go off but I found it would be 'heavy' to drive after that and it would take a good while to build up speed, often not going over 65mph.

I took it to a mechanic and after an hour I was told it had a faulty fuel injector. He showed me pictures of the bottles he had filled, one was empty, 2 were not even a quarter filled and one of the middle ones filled 2 times over. He pointed out the fuel injectors in the engine and they were covered in water and filthy.

I have done a bit of research and have found this is a known fault in C3's built before 2006, where the washer jets would leak onto the engine causing damage to the fuel injectors. Does this apply to diesel and petrol cars alike?
The fault was fixed with later models, by putting a seal on the washer jets where's previously there was no seal preventing water from getting back in.

I have contacted Citroen and they asked me to take it to one of there dealers and if the cause is because of this known fault they will repair it as a good will gesture. But I do not want to take it to them and pay a diagnostic fee of £65 to be told the same thing the other mechanic told me, and Citroen claim the underlying cause was not the leaking washer (which is leaking by the way, I checked this morning)
I have been told elsewhere this problem does not apply to diesel cars. Is this true? The engine and the fuel injectors are in the same place as the petrol ones, so why would the leaking washer jets not cause a problem for diesel, but it would for petrol?

Any help would be appreciated. Either way I will be getting the injectors replaced, my concern is if it is due to a design fault because if the above is possible with a diesel I will badger Citroen until they do it just because they are sick of seeing me! But I don't want to be a nuisance if in fact the problem is not applicable to diesel C3's.
