Hi All
Last month I was convicted of driving a motor vehicle whilst over the prescribed U.K drink driving limit. I received a fine, 28 month ban, and community sentence order. Im sorry to post this and I accept that many will have ill feelings towards me on this particular issue, as it resinates deeply with many U.K motorists. It was a stupid mistake, and one which I have no intention of making in the future.
My question
My charge sheets from the station contained a misspelling of my surname which appeared on all subsequent letters from the police and courts. Not a massive issue and simply became something I had to correct every time a citation was made. Every person I spoke to made a mental note to change the incorrect spelling and to sum up the mental capacity of the U.K court system . nothing ever got changed :).
More severe, the court in question appears to have banned the wrong driver number. Many will know that the U.K license number is made up of the first 5 letters of your surname followed by a sequence (anagram birthdate). The driver number on my disqualification letter contains the first 5 letters of the incorrect surname, then the accurate birthdate numbers and then 3 inaccurate further letters.
The thing that I cannot work out is why I was never asked to provided a license number in the first place at any point during charge and prosecution. The number appears to have been plucked from somewhere based on the incorrect spelling and correct birthdate.
When I perform a DVLA license check on my accurate license number, that number is clean with no endorsements, bans, or points etc.
Whats going on with this?
