After many years abroad my Dad is relocating back to the UK. He is keen to have a car waiting for him on return so wants me to look at some cars for him and purchase one. I'm unsure what you do about the log book at the dealership.
Can you buy a car and fill the V5 in with someone elses details? I.e. with my Dad's info.
Is this something I need to ring DVLA about in advance to sort out?
The car is 100% my Dad's I have no financial stake in it or the insurance. He will have fully comp insurance on it in his name when I buy it from garage. Quotes ready. I have my own fully comp policy so will drive it away on my own insurance as third party, or will have temporary cover on his for a few weeks so I'm fully comp whilst I keep it for him until flight arrives in 6 weeks. Are there any other issues I should be thinking of regarding registering, tax and insurance?
