Whilst changing wheels around I started to think about torqueing up to the correct setting.
One question I have not been able to get a sensible answer to is, are the loads quoted for dry or lubricated nuts.
In days of yore, pre torque settings for wheel nuts, everything tended to be steel and prone to rusting so I always greased the threads.
These days the threads are usually plated so less likely to rust, a new car always has dry threads, I notice at each service the garage applies copper grease to the wheel mating surfaces to ensure the wheel does not stick when removing it but not the nuts/studs.
Anyone any thoughts?
