In this day and age, why are males at dealership still so flaming patronising to females wanting to buy a car? Do they treat males the same?
I'm looking for a new to me car. The car has to do specific jobs and I have a list of must have requirements (aside from usual HP, finance, service history, getting an independent check, etc.) for the vehicle.
So, today, having found three possibles at three different dealerships, I make the phone calls. The initial bit goes well, but then they start emphasising the stuff I don't want: air-con (I mean seriously in Scotland - only ever in 17 years needed that!; DAB radio - what a joke and I don't have the radio on in the car coz reception's lousy and i'm not going to pull over every time to swap channels. Satnav - I know this is contentious and yes, if I was going somewhere new in a city, could be very helpful, but I can just as easily plan my route in advance. Two of my friends, just turn them off, one of them having been directed over 100 miles off the simplest route, despite having paid for the latest upgrade,; in a Discovery, this was seriously expensive! Bluetooth - well my phone's off in the car and there is the factor that mobile reception is pretty lousy (and I have phones on three different networks) where I travel, so what's the point? Cruise control - I do less than 1000 miles on a m-way in a year - try using cruise control on most of our trunk roads, let alone anything else!
And so it went on but when it got to me asking my questions, they went quiet (a bit) and got seriously flustered; they seemed incapable of realising why one wants a vehicle with those capabilities. One cut me off with "sorry, got a customer" and the other two wanted me to call back some other time to speak to (named person) at my expense!
Needless to say, major email complaint sent to the dealers involved. If not resolved, then details will be posted here.
I do not need this s**t!
