Hi all,
So I passed my test last weekend 3rd time. I've been putting in loads of practice driving around in my spare time whenever I can but I've had some awful near misses today that really knocked my confidence and was looking for advice??
This morning I was driving to work in the dark and had to take some country roads I'm not familiar with. In some places this road narrows for bridges over small rivers but it's not well sign posted and I didn't know how many there were. So after the first one I thought that I'd passed that part of the route, but as I was driving along (about 50 in a 60 because it was dark and I'm still a little nervous) another driver opposite approached with his full beams on. I was totally dazzled so didn't see the bridge coming up, he sped through it and passed me and I just noticed it in time to slam my brakes and swerve out of the way of the brick wall.
Second time was on my way home this evening. On a dual carriageway I needed to go into the right lane so I indicated and checked my mirrors as usual, saw the nearest car on the right was a few hundred yards away so I should have plenty of time. Then as I go to move suddenly a car appears next to me, the car behind me must have been speeding as he was miles away when I checked. I had to swerve back into my lane and luckily there was no one behind me. I was so shaken I took an exit too early on the roundabout and ended up lost!
Since both of these accidents happened at speeds where if I'd crashed I'd have been seriously injured or worse, it's really knocked my confidence. I'll still drive to work tomorrow and obviously be more careful in situations like that in future, I'm just worried I shouldn't be allowed to drive!
