Insurance liability dispute following accident

Hi all,

I've never been in this situation before so was hoping someone could help me with what happens next?

On Sunday I was involved in a collision between myself and 1 other car on a roundabout. They were in the 1st lane (left most), I was in the 2nd.

The roundabout layout was such that the 1st lane is first left turn only, the 2nd lane is left turn OR straight on around the roundabout.

We were both stopped at traffic lights controlling traffic flow onto the roundabout. When they changed I set off with the intention of following this second lane in to the first turning off the roundabout (thinking the other car would be doing similar, but in the 1st lane).

Instead the other car continued getting closer and closer to me - though I did not see it as I turned in to my exit on the roundabout - and we made contact with each other.

We both immediately pulled up just beyond the roundabout exit to exchange details. My car has two reasonable dents in the passenger door - his has a slight scratch above the front right wheel arch (it was a 4x4).

At the time he said 'sorry, I thought you were going to go straight round' but we didn't argue it there - we just exchanged details.

I lodged the claim with my insurance explaining the above - but have just heard from them that he is claiming I tried to merge in to his lane and hit him - rather than the other way around.

There's no CCTV in the area nor dash cams on either of our cars. It's basically my word against his.

What on earth happens next? I'm really worried as I've had a spotless license for 5+ years till now.
