Our ford focus broke down 1 day before the warranty had ran out. It needed a new engine. Ford agreed to pay for half the repair costs of £1600 approx. When the car was ready to be picked up we had to pay the other half which came to "£2100 incuding vat. We were not happy that we had to pay for half the engine as the car was still in warranty (although very close to the date). We were told our new engine had a 1 year extra guarantee. After several emails and telephone calls to Ford they eventually admitted that the date they had down for us for taking the the car to the garage was the 27th of April therefore the car would have been out of warranty on this date. The car was actually at the Ford garage on the 22nd of April when the car was still in warranty. Ford admitted their mistake and we had a telephone call a few days ago to say that they were now paying 100% towards the cost. We thought that this must have been too good to be true!!! Our local garage phoned us also a few days ago to say that when the did the repair on our car they should have fitted a re-conditioned engine and not a new one. We were never given the option. Threrefore they are now saying that they cannot refund us all of the £2100 that we paid towards the cost of the repair and that they would have to deduct the difference between the cost of a new engine and a re conditioned engine. Also, they said that despite our engine being new the guarantee on the new one had become void as we shouldn't have had a new one.
We feel we've been messed around so much. To be honest we don't know what to believe any more. If a car is under warranty would you even fit a second had/re-condition engine or parts??
Any advice would be greatly received
Thanks
