We've just received ballot papers to elect a new commissioner on May 5th. To find out who the candidates are it advises a free phone number or to go on line for the info.
In all probability we will never have heard of the candidates prior to this election so, in real terms, what is the use of an elected police commissioner? I certainly have no way of knowing how good, or bad, any one of them would be in the job, and I would guess that I am in the great majority in this respect.
If none of them have any previous experience in operating a police force (and its highly likely that none have), how on earth can ordinary citizens make a considered opinion?
