Cat C write off

I was recently involved in a collision in which a car crashed into the back of my car. The damage to my car was rather minimal, which involved a cracked rear bumper and numberplate, and also a slight fracture to the chassis behind the rear towing eye. After visiting a mechanic, I was told that the damage sustained would make it through an MOT, if it came to that. After making a claim, my car was registered as a cat c write off, and I was informed by the technical engineer who inspected the damage on my car that I would need to get an MOT on it, then inform my insurance company of the write off.

However, several people, including car mechanics, have informed me that I only need to reapply for the V5C document. Upon further research, I discovered that on the DVLA gov website it says that if your car is a cat c or d write off then all I need to do is send of the V5C document to my insurance company and apply for another V5C. https://www.gov.uk/scrapped-and-writ...ance-writeoffs

I have checked the status on the gov website, and it says that my car has an MOT until September, so am I technically road legal?

My question is, what exactly do I have to get my car back on the road? MOT it or just send off for the VC5 document?

Thanks in advance, any feedback appreciated.
