Hi RAC Forum Readers,
I was recently driving south of the border and was fined for 'no tax' while driving in the Republic of Ireland. It was only a 65 fine but I was wondering is this legal?
I have read some sites and the Vienna Convention regarding driving in other countries and you are not required to show tax, just insurance, MOT and sometimes have some specialist things like snow-chains or breathalysers etc. depending on country.
Are the Irish police (Gardaí) allowed to do this?
P.S. This is not about the morality of tax avoidance :)
