Hi there looking for some help with the above.
Posted here before and had good advise from Hometune concerning the same vehicle.
The Signum had been my daughters up untill Feb this year at which time I took it off her and she had my car, smaller and cheaper to run for her.
Anyway I've had lots done on the vehicle intending to keep it, the most recent of which was to have the turbo refurbished and a full cam belt kit fitted via my lock garage. Turbo stopped it's whistling and the car has been great to drive for most of the last six months.
About four weeks ago experienced what I thought was an engine cutout doing 60 on a local dual carriageway in Coventry having already done about 10 miles. Pulled over into the very handy petrol station coming up and stopped. Tried restarting the car and at first it just cranked over but it started on the next try. Continued our journey to Redditch on the M42 and just as we left the Motorway after another say 15 miles the car went into limp mode. Restarted and it was fine then into Redditch.
Anyway have had periodic limp mode and also on occasions the car has been difficult to start first thing just cranking over, normally it starts first turn of the key.
Eventually it happened again so I limped the car across to the local garage mechanic who plugged his diagnostics into the car, I'd left it running so atleast something would show up. His kit showed a P0002 code (fueling metering solenoid range/performance).
I've since bought another newer car and left the Signum with the mechanic who has taken to someone he knows with Bosch diagnostics. The car had been in limp mode but this other guy wouldn't/couldn't connect his kit with the engine running. When the car was restarted and he ran his stuff there where no codes showing.
Just before Christmas I went to the garage and took the Signum for another drive. 15 miles before limp mode kicked in and a carful long slow drive back to garage. Engine left running and puts his kit on again and it shows the p0002 code. Every time the code is cleared or the engine is stopped the engine runs fine again for a longish period.
Did as much research as I could and nothing really fitted the bill with symptoms I have so decided to buy a new metering solenoid. That arrived and it was fitted yesterday. Mechanic says car starts fine and runs lovely for about 7 miles then goes into limp mode again when hes in traffic. Stops and drives off ok again. Plugs his kit in again but no codes again! He's scratching his head and I want to sell the car but need it fixed really before hand, don't want people coming back complaining I sold them a lemon!
Things I should include are that as per my earlier posts, the swirls flaps have been deleted and the EGR blanked and left unplugged. The guy with the Bosch diagnostics is saying he would want the ERG valve connected and working to do anymore. Don't want to do this as when you do the Emmisions light comes on......I know it shouldn't with it plugged in (long story with that) but after buying a brand new Pierberg EGR and cleaning everything possible couldn't get rid of the P0400 code and the yellow light....that is until by accident I found the emmisions light doesn't come on if the EGR valve is left unplugged......I no it shouldn't do this this but it does, it's the same with any of the 2nd hand valves I bought connected as well. Just have to put up with there always being a p0400 code stored as it's worth while having the EGR mapped out at the charges they make. I can put up with the stored p0400 as it's never caused problems since blanked off/unplugged over 6 months ago.
So does anyone here, Hometune perhaps, who could suggest any other reasons, obscure probabley that might cause this code and the limp mode and strange symptoms.
Mechanic is thinking along lines of some sort of problem with the boost valve side of things. His wife has a similar issue with her Audi though not as bad but gets no codes. I read somewhere a week or so ago (and can't find it again) of similar issues which came down to the flexible fuel feed pipe to the metering solenoid which when replaced cured their problems. Think they said the flexible pipe had started to degrade internally.
Any help/thoughts appreciated please folks.
