As a matter of necessity, not choice, I had to go out this afternoon in the car. All our ferries had been cancelled and the wind speed was gusting up around the 70mph mark. Never been happy about driving in high winds, but that's twice in a week now. First time was on M74 when one of the retaining straps on an empty lorry had worked loose and it was flailing about across lane 2 (went into lane three to overtake and then pulled back into lane one and kept flashing my hazards at the driver. He obviously twigged coz he flashed me and pulled onto the hard shoulder) and then coming back this afternoon when I came across a long motor-home I've been admiring - very posh - lying on it's side on the most exposed part of the road with recovery vehicle in attendance. Looked like the driver had been caught out coming out of the cutting and just toppled over. To give you an idea of the impact of these winds, I was travelling at just under 30 and the Freelander was still a fight to control! Keep safe.
