On Sunday, my journey took an extra 45 minutes of which 20 minutes were wasted by the lack of diversion signs. I was travelling from New Galloway to Gretna and the normal route would be down towards Castle Douglas, TR then TL on A75 eastbound. BUT I (and as it turned out, three competitors from the event I'd been at) had for various reasons to go into Castle Douglas. We knew the A75 was closed (though not precisely where) so headed for Dalbeattie. That's when the problem started. Yes, there were diversion signs at the entrance to Dalbeattie but (and this I don't follow at all) they turned out to be for westbound traffic (and if you're going to Dalbeattie from CD, you're likely to be wanting eastbound). Why no eastbound diversion signs? It was major roadworks that closed the road - in fact, when I did get sorted out, didn't rejoin on the diversion until the last roundabout at Dumfries so very major!
Interestingly, no info at the junction at New Galloway for Crocketford and none at the major turn-off for the A75 off the A713 (in both cases) just before CD. Where we were staying and working had no mobile signal and no Internet access and the locals also didn't know about the closure.
