My car had a minor electric fire in June 2015 and the insurance company wanted to write it off, offering me £6,900. I disputed this and had it taken to an independent garage who estimated repairs at about £500. The insurance company said I could have it fixed and that the claim would be cancelled - they did not tell me that it would still be classed as a cat D write off on HPI. I am now trading in and the value has been affected - it is now valued at £3,000 - can I do anything about this?
