OK, so I have just got a peugeot 206cc, 2002 74k.
I went to view it, took my friend who is a mechanic, test drove it just up and down the road. There was a very slight grind which we took to be the brakes having been sat for sometime, possibly the wheel bearings, no big deal.
The seller expressed no interest, basically threw the keys at me and said he knows nothing about this car, he hasnt driven it, and then buggered off.
Not impressed with him but the car was in good nick, and was a decent price, cheap but not too cheap.
Paid £200 deposit, came back a couple of days later to pick it up and pay the remaining amount.
Now. on the drive home; some 20 miles, the grinding noise increased dramatically in 1st 2nd 3rd, getting quieter when the clutch is down but not disappearing. The clutch started slipping occasionally causing revs to shoot up and the engine emitting a lovely burnt rubber smell.
From reading, it sounds like the clutch/and or gearbox. I havent driven it since getting it home.
The receipt simply says sold as seen, with no warranty.
Having gone through the history he finally handed over it mentions noisy gear bearings on the last service.
Am I right in thinking that this should have been mentioned, and that if their excuse is that they didnt know, then the car shouldnt have been put up for sale yet?
I didnt see the paperwork before hand as the guy purposefully avoided us!
