Hiya just looking for some advice about an incident that happened with my car and a lorry. I was in the right hand lane of 2 merging lanes, the traffic would go no more than 5mph and then come to a stop. The general thing that happens here is one car from each lane filters in and I drive on this road every single day never with a problem. I was merging into the left lane after a car on my left had gone in front of me the lorry stayed back and seemed to have let me go. As ive stopped my car the lorry has scraped in to my back left passenger door and wheel arch. Damage isnt bad but I thought id let my insurance know and they have decided that i am liable. I really dont agree as the lorry had let me go and I was stopped when he scratched my car, i didnt cut him up or anything and the traffic was moving so slowly its not like he could say he didnt see me. The driver refused to give me his details anyway and my insurance company have closed the claim but my premium will obviously go up and im a student and just cant afford it! My insurance company said they totally understand where Im coming from but as my lane was merging no matter what it is my fault?! I just really dont think I was in the wrong I hope I have explained it properly im not a silly driver and not sure where to go from here as I feel so let down by my insurance company not sure whether speaking to a solicitor will help or not.
