My cam chain Tensioner is rattling again having already replaced it with a second hand one some time ago and it is the type which has a solenoid which changes the tension top to bottom to change the inlet valve timing.
The problem with the previous one was that one of the plastic inserts which press on the chain had broken up and I think I have the same problem again.
My oil pressure is OK so I do not think this is the problem.

My local Audi fixing garage has a spare tensioner which they have had in stock for some time but it is the type which dose not have the solenoid.
I see from the internet that these tensioners are advertised as suitable for an A4.
I have run the car in the past with the solenoid disconnected and frankly have not noticed any significant difference in performance
It looks as if it would fit my car and would be a much cheaper replacement - do you know if this would be OK please just to keep the old car on the road ?
