I replaced the track rod ends on my van and then took it to Kwik Fit for the steering wheel alignment to be set up. Their employee used the very latest computer aided wheel alignment apparatus (Hunter).
He did not have the engine running during the procedure - power steering should be running.
He did not test drive it to ensure it was correct.
On completion he said it was all set up perfectly and gave me the keys.
So, off I went and within a few hundred yards the steering wheel was at 11.25 (imagine a clock) instead of level at quarter to three.
The van did go in a straight line so not wanting to waste more time went home, removed the steering wheel and refitted it so all was level.
I didn't do much driving until today and turning a corner the front end slid a little and the steering went very light - like driving on ice. The more I drove the more dangerous it was.
I went to a garage and used their wheel alignment tools and found the alignment was 8mm the wrong way and off the scale! Instead of toeing out 1mm (i.e. wheels pointing out) it was 7mm toeing in. 5 minutes later and the steering is where it should be.
There are so many bad reviews about this when you search online, all I can say is, AVOID KWIK FIT!!!
