Citroen gear problem - help please

I recently bought a second hand Citroen C3 Picasso from a Citroen dealer and I have had a significant problem since I picked it up. When I am in fifth gear I occasionally have a problem changing to fourth - I have to press the clutch two or three times and wrestle with the gear stick to get it out of fifth. It can prove extremely difficult to budge.

As I say, this has been only an intermittent problem, but it can happen in quite dangerous situations. There seems to be no way of anticipating when it might happen, which makes it all the more disconcerting. I'm so apprehensive about using fifth, I've got to the state where I'll only select it in situations where I know I can safely pull over if the vehicle stays stuck in fifth.

I took the vehicle back to the dealer a couple of weeks after buying the car and they claim they stripped the gearbox down and replaced a pin which they said was missing. But I wasn't convinced they had taken the problem seriously and dealt with the actual problem. In fact, I was given a long lecture on how to change gear properly when I rang asking when I could collect the car (I've been driving for 30 years, for goodness' sake!)

I was just wondering if (a) anyone had had the same gear problem and (b) whether anyone had any suggestions for the best course of action I could take, bearing in mind the dealer seems to feel it is partly a problem over my driving technique. I'd like to take the car to another garage to be checked, then go to the Citroen dealer and present them with this independent view as to the cause of the problem and get them to fix it. But that would obviously cost me money. I'm a bit stuck as to what to do.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.
