6 months ago, the original Alternator stopped working. At which point I used Shmitz_RE (Ebay Shop) to buy Alternator #1. They sent out alternatior #1 and all was fine... until 3 Months later!
As i was driving home from Llandudno, the power steering, dashlights, radio and heaters all turned off (all electrics). The engine was still running but I couldn't get it above a certain amount of revs. Guttless!
So, I managed to get home in what had now become A TANK to drive.
That was that. When I got home, before switching the engine off, the dashlights, radio, everything started to work fine. Until! I revved the engine above around 1200RPM.
Tester read 16v from the battery so we told Shmitz_RE that the alternator was overcharging and they agreed to send a replacement, (alternator #2)
Fitted alternator #2, everything was working with the exception of my central locking (from key and from centre console button), boot opener and the aircon light came on whenever I turned the normal heaters on.
Strange behaviour, but manageable. After reading up, I disconnected the battery to see if it would reset, reconnected the battery, pressed the lock/unlock buttons, the car locked then unlocked, but after a couple of presses, stopped working again.
THEN!!!
Woke up one morning, started the car, got 10ft past the drive and the car shut off. (Which happens alot). So I tried to start her up again 3 times, which normally does the trick. NOTHING! Tried jump starting it, engine was turning over quicker than it does normally, but still wouldnt fire up.
Called the AA, oil spewing out everywhere, the AA fella told me the alternator had gone! Oil pump on the side of the alternator or something, that was throwing oil out everywhere.
Shmitz_RE are now playing hard to get about sending out alternator #3!
