60 Reg Mondeo - Speedometer Screen

Hi, First time posting. I have a crack in the plastic screen that covers the speedo dial (Display Unit). Fords saying it will cost £400 parts + reprogramming etc as its a complete unit. I wondered if there was a way of just repairing the crack or cutting out the damage and replacing it.. Bit expensive otherwise.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
