I still can't decide what sort of car to buy, but one option I'm seriously considering is a Skoda Fabia, probably about 5 years old. I don't want something too slow, so it's down to a choice between the 105bhp 1.2 TSI and the 1.6. They have very similar performance figures, but the TSI is more economical and in a lower tax band (D vs G), so at first it looks more attractive. But is it likely to have more problems than the 1.6? How reliable are those turbos? I see they've got a reputation for drinking oil, but that should cost me far less than the difference in tax alone as long as I don't let it run low and there aren't other problems. On the other hand I think the 1.2 TSI has chain-drive cams, whereas the 1.6 has a belt which needs replacing fairly often.
