Zafira 1.8 poor starting

I have a problem with my 2001 Zafira 1.8 in that when you try to start it (hot or cold) it turns over for a good 10-15 seconds before it starts. I have changed the CTS and the coil pack. I have tried disconnecting the MAF to eliminate that but to no avail (interestingly when i disconnected the MAF the EML did not come on even though its there when the ignition is turned on so bulb is ok). There are no fault codes stored so i am at a bit of a loss as to where to go next. Once running seems to run ok although needs to be spun up to about 2500rpm to pull away smoothly from rest but perhaps this is just a charactaristic of the car?
