Ford Focus 2008 Automatic 1.6 Zetec - Intermittent Starting Problem

Hi,

I wonder if someone could shed any light on why my car wont start first time.

The problem I have is weird in that my car will start first time from my house
which is generally in the shade in the morning. But once I have spent the day
at work, with the car in direct sunlight all day. It takes me three attempts
at turning it over before it finally starts.

FYI.
When starting the car I put my foot on the brake and hold it there while turning
the key (as it says to do in the manual). So not sure what can be causing this
problem.

It was a fairly intermittent problem, but every day this week it has taken three
times to get it to start.

Over winter I had to call out someone as the car would not start no
matter how many attempts I made at starting it any they
said that the engine had flooded and put the accelerator pedal to the floor
then depressed the brake pedal first before starting the car which it did.

The following advise is taken from the cars user manual which I follow:

Starting the engine
---------------------

Vehicles with automatic transmission

Note: Do not touch the accelerator pedal.

1. Select park or neutral.
2. Fully depress the brake pedal.
3. Start the engine.

If the engine does not start within 15seconds,
wait for a short period and try again.

If the engine does not start after three attempts,
wait 10 seconds and follow the Flooded engine
procedure.

Flooded engine
------------------

Vehicles with automatic transmission

1. Select park or neutral.
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and hold it there.
3. Fully depress the brake pedal.
4. Start the engine.

The battery is in good condition as was replace about 2 years ago,
so I am now at a loss as to what may be causing the problem.

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful to here.

Thanks in advance.
