Hi, I was wondering if any of you kind souls out there could give me your prognosis on a problem I am having with my Vauxhall Omega 2.2 Diesel.
The problem being that it is driving fine one minute and the next it will do a little rev (of it's own accord) and the engine light comes on and it loses power, it will to foot to the floor at pulling off and takes ages to pick up speed to the 30's/40's. I have also noticed that the rev counter stops working even though it does rev (very slowly).
I have been able to give it full revs occasionally and all of a sudden it is like something clears and it starts acting normally again (though not for long).
I am now finding that the engine is starting to cut out whilst both stationary and driving which stops the power steering from working, hence very dangerous.
One more thing to mention is that it smells quite "carbony" and when the full revs "cleared it" a lot of black soot seemed to come out of the exhaust (so my wife says).
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated please guys, many thanks in advance.
