Dodgy driving this morning

Ok Friday 13th did not get off to a good start this morning, basically on route to work 8.45 (very busy) this morning I pulled out on to the main road and the guy I pulled in front of was somewhat annoyed pulled up behind me flashed etc, generally aggressive, there was space so no issue. I then gave him the finger turned off the main road and kept going, he was still right up behind me and still flashing and still being abusive.

He then decides to overtake. Now this is a built up area 30 zone I was going at the speed limit and he pulls out in to oncoming traffic to overtake me. I stood my ground i.e. didn't let him in, if anything I stood my ground a bit too much, I pulled out slightly to make sure he could not get in. Turns out there was nowhere to go and he had to hit me to swerve back in to avoid on-coming traffic. Yes I hold my hands up I stood my ground but surely you can't overtake on a busy road with on-coming traffic in a 30 zone and say its a good move. He says he was trying to avoid me..... I have damage to my car, not really bothered about it but his car is pretty damaged.

What do people think, was I in the wrong, should I have let him in? He then decides to call police and say I am drunk etc, then his mates turn up, so I left quickly. I gave him all my details so I am not worried about leaving scene or anything. But more worried about my wifes car..... Also he had 3 kids in his car, and apparently thats his excuse for overtaking....
