Peugeot 207 Air filter and breather mod query?

Hello,

To start things off, I drive a Peugeot 207 S 1.4

I'm new to the forum so please go easy on me if this is the wrong place to post this as I don't believe the 'performance' increase with a new air filter fitted is worth mentioning.

I recently acquired a new air filter and installed it pretty easily but I noticed that a pipe is now left unplugged, I know next to nothing about cars but I assume this is the breather pipe? In its current state it is just left doing nothing and the car drives well, no surprise there but for the long term damages this could cause I would like to get a breather filter. I just need your advice as if this is what I'm actually looking at.



Just to clarify the obvious that isn't plugged into anything, is this the breather which will need a filter putting on?

also, I read somewhere that the positioning of the air filter isn't the best would it be best to have pipe that aims the filter more towards the front end of the car?
