I was involved in an accident on the 27th of November. My membership card says it includes "accident care" so I thought I could trust and rely on the RAC to help - Especially seems I have been paying £13.55/month for 3 years just in case something like this did happen...
My belongings (RAC MEMBERSHIP CARD and phone) were in my own vehicle and under order from the POLICE could not be accessed for safety reasons.
I therefore called from the police phone, while sat in the police car.
After been kept on hold for ages I was told that the RAC would not attend because.. I am "NOT AN RAC MEMBER"
I explained that I had been a member for years and that my membership card was in my own vehicle and could not be accessed currently. The POLICE even explained this to the RAC.
....If the RAC did attend they could obviously have seen the card once the recovery was underway
OR if I was in fact (sat in the police car) lying about being a member then they could obviously have charged me for the recovery....
There was no attempt by the RAC staff to understand my situation, which must surely be quite common?? How many people have their RAC documents to hand immediately after a car accident...
After waiting as long as they could for the RAC to see sense, the police were forced to call their own recovery contractors and I was charged for the recovery.
After suffering such poor customer service, I thought I could raise the issue with the RAC and the matter could surely be resolved...
No, instead of this, I have received one message from the RAC in almost a month in response to my 3 emails
If an RAC staff member sees this message please follow up my complaint, Case reference: UF9836676
