Doesn't seem to be any problem with the clutch, the problem is that the gear selections have lost their positions. For example, to get 1st gear I have to put the gearstick into the position of where reverse would normally be. Once I have done this, I have to pull the gearstick straight back to get 2nd gear. So 1st and 2nd gear seem to have moved too far over to the left, pushing reverse out of reach therefore no reverse gear now.
All other gears I can get, but they are not where you would expect them to be, you have to feel around for them. However, it is very difficult and sometimes impossible to change back down through the gears.
Could this just be a problem with the gear linkages or is it something more in depth in the gear box such as the synchromesh?
Any help with this problem is very much appreciated as I'm stumped as to what it could be.
