With a snapped fan belt on the M62 at 3:15pm, I called the RAC and explained the problem exactly and told them I needed a fanbelt fitted. Rescue arrived at 4:30, looked at the car and told me it couldn't be done today and that I would need recovering as he couldn't do anything on the motorway. He called the recovery guy, who he was on first name terms with and arranged a pickup which arrived about an hour later at a cost of 193 pounds for a 40 mile journey! So what exactly will the RAC do for you? Why didn't he tow me off the motorway to the services 6 miles away and fix the fanbelt? It took me 30 minutes to do it at home! Is there anything sinister about the fact he was on first name terms with the recovery guy? Do the RAC only change wheels now and carry a can of petrol? When I registered a formal complaint - which they didn't acknowledge until I phoned them one month later, they refused any refund and dismissed my claim! I am totally disgusted with the RAC!
