Hi guys,
this is a Peugeot 407SW 1.6 hdi deisel engine on a 57 plate, (11500 miles on clock) it's been juddering and trying to stall very intermittently for the last couple of months, so about
2 weeks ago i took the car to my local repair garage, but during the day that they tested it, it never played up, typical!
They did however replace the fuel filter and gave me a bottle of cleaner to pour into my tank, which i did do.
No fault log showed up when they connected it to the computer either.
Since then and during the two weeks of driving it (i drove about 150 miles to and from work etc.) it did judder on occasion but not as bad as before, but last Monday it wouldn't start in the morning, I had almost run the battery down before it finally kicked in and started (i had not driven it since Saturday afternoon) and it was running good all week on 30mph road
Then yesterday the problems really happened... I needed to make a 30 mile journey, and about 2 miles into the duel carriage way doing 60 to 70mph it juddered and cut out as if the ignition key was turned off, while rolling i tried to turn the key to restart it but no response. This was at a location where the outside lane was coned off with road works, so i had no choice than to drive between the cones onto the closed out side lane while the car was still free wheeling, or else i would have caused one hell of a tail back.
I stood there on the closed lane for about 2 minutes with hazard lights flashing, then turned the key and she started again, so i pulled back onto the open lane and drove on, then about 400 yards later she cut out again, so i drove back between the cones, waited 2 minutes and was able to drive a further 400 yards or so, this continued until it cut out just before a left turn exit from the duel carriage way so i steered (heavily) into the exit which went down hill, so i was able to free wheel until i found a lay by. I waited a further 2 or 3 minutes (relieved that i was off the duel carriage way), and started the engine and drove into the village a further 4 or 5 hundred yards, with the engine cutting out, I managed to continue through the built up areas where there were lots of stopping places until i got to another road where i could not break down on, so i decided to ring my breakdown insurance company (i had taken out breakdown cover only 2 weeks ago, and i was glad i did) I ended up waiting for about an hour until they turned up, and explained the problem to the recovery man, and he thinks it could be the fuel pump, especially being that after the garage had fitted a new fuel filter that the car was running better on 30mph roads, but on fast roads it cuts out through lack of enough fuel getting through.
He loaded my car onto his recovery truck and took me home 6 miles away.
So here i am explaining this to you all, in the hope that someone may be familiar with this kind of problem? do dodgy fuel pumps give these kinds of symptoms?
