Hi all,
Even though i trust my local garage not to rip me off, I just thought i'd ask you guys for any suggestions to the possible cause (and repair price).
I Have a Citreon Xsara Picasso
'03' plate
engine size i think 1600
The problem -
The engine randomly over revs when idle, usually when pulling up at traffic lights for example although occasionally when just starting up at home, but i put that down to the auto choke?
OK, when the car over revs at the traffic lights, i can usually return the car to 'normal' idle speed, by keeping the car in gear with one foot on the brake, then bringing the clutch up to the biting point then returning to the depressed position.
The accelerator cable does not appear to be snagging anywhere, and under the bonnet is quite loose (ie not under any undue tension).
I have read on other forums by googling, that it could be contaminated fuel, but i have ruled this out as i have re-fuelled quite a few times since this started.
Another thing i read was too much air in the mixture, but being a novice i have no idea how to check this.
Any advice greatly received, and more details available on request.
Also although i haven't as such broken down, is this something i could call The RAC out to have a look at?
Many Thanks
