I was involved in an accident last week, the other party has accepted liability. I reported the claim immediately to my insurers who have arranged for the damage to be repaired, hire car etc. I've received a call from the third part insurer today suggesting I should go through them as my own policy is likely to be affected, even by a non-fault claim, if I go through them.
I spoke with my insurer again who confirms this is correct but my no claims discount will not be affected. My insurer said I can cancel the claim and use the third party if I prefer.
What I want to know, is which is the best option. I'd rather use my own insurers as everything is all booked in, however, I don't like the fact that my premium may increase. If I cancel the claim and go through the third party will my premium still be affected the same as if I claim on my policy? i.e. does it really make any difference who I use?
