flashing lights on my ford focus

I own a ford focus 2009 plate and recently the battery went flat i have just charged it up and connected it back on my car. Once it was connected all the outside lights started flashing and the horn kept going off, i can get into the car but the car will not start and the dash lights dont come on.

does anyone have an idea what could be the problem?
