Hi I have a 2005 Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 petrol automatic. It has been running badly, revs low and going up and down, engine management light keeps coming on. Also whilst idling the revs go up and down, whilst actually driving the car it runs pretty well, although occasionally cuts out when stopping and traffic lights, but always restarts no problem. We had the 02 Lambda replaced, as told by garage that this was the problem. Car still not running right after having this replaced and mechanic said there were about 5 or 6 error codes coming up and he wouldn't want to do any further work on the car. He cleared the codes and said to run the car for a week or so and then get the codes rescanned.
After a couple of weeks I took the car to another garage to have the codes scanned again and was told that they were showing problems with air intake and the crankshaft was out of line. I left the car with the garage to see what they could do. They had the car for a few days and cleaned up various bits and pieces. They then found the coil pack was cracked and the spark plugs were in really bad condition. They replaced the coil pack with a new and also the spark plugs hoping this would resolve the problem. But no car still revving unevenly, so they are really not sure what to do now.
I drove the car away so that I could have a think on whether to spend any more money or to see if it was worth taking so where else, however on driving the car I couldn't get it to go faster than 20 mph and the gears didn't seem to what to change any further than 2nd. So I took the car back to the garage car park and have left it there for now. The garage are going to see if they can find out any further information before spending any more time on it. Does anybody have any ideas what it could be? I have seen on various sites it could be the ECU or the mass air flow meter. The car has only done 58,000 so don't really want to get rid of it just yet, but also don't want to keep spending money and not get the problem resolved. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
