Hello this is my first post on this forum so be gentle with me.
My 05 plate scenic and I had an unfortunate and somewhat scarey accident just before Christmas.The motorway was dark but it was a clear night with dry road surface,I was almost at my destination when the front passenger wheel seemed to explode/disintegrate causing the car to swerve violently across three lanes of the motorway.I managed to turn the wheel to stop the car driving into the woodland,this resulted in the car hitting the central reservation and destroying the front of the vehicle as it put us into a spin. Luckily there were no other vehicles involved and my fourteen year old daughter and her boyfriend and myself were left battered and in shock but otherwise unharmed.This happened at night so my first response was to get the children to safety,the car ended up facing the right direction in the middle lane of the motorway but with only two wheels left it was not going anywhere.
Other motorists just seemed to carry on whizzing past us incredibly but luckily a passing patrol car soon sorted the traffic so we could get to the hard shoulder.
My question is.. Has anyone had or heard of any experience with this sort of accident,Is it common for either an alloy wheel or Tyre to just disintegrate in this way ?
The tyres had only been on the car two weeks to the day and it had an MOT two weeks to the day prior as well.
The insurance wants to give me a pittance for the car which was in lovely condition and well looked after with low mileage.It worries me that this could happen to another motorist,should I be talking to the Tyre company or Renault about this.
